The aim of this starter activity is for students to write the text out in full selecting the best option from A, B or C. To get it right they have to empathise and see things from the cultural perspective of the woman in the picture. I have posted earlier examples of this kind of activity and I find it works well and is quite simple to make. You can exploit the photo further and this can involve more than the two question words I’ve used. All depends on the level of your group.
