Nueve meses de invierno, tres meses de infierno

I have been teaching my Year 9 the language needed to describe their local area. As part of this we looked at Barcelona before and after the Olympics and imagined what we will be saying about the impact of the London games. I am now moving on to the weather, but as a final bit of practice we looked at Madrid in today’s lesson. I based an exercise on a clip from a BBC programme called Spanish Shorts which I think is great. You can see the clip on the following link –www.bbc.co.uk/learningzone/clips/mi-ciudad-madrid/8532.html .

Following this I presented them with the saying that Madrid has “nueve meses de invierno, tres meses de infierno“. This was the perfect segway to move on to present the language needed to describe the weather. The PowerPoint is below. Also attached is the transcript for a description I gave of Madrid using the slides 3-11 prior to looking at the video as well as the worksheet for the video activity.
